The Sassy Straight Up Nappy can pull up and push down to make nappy changes so much easier, especially for active toddlers. They sit a little lower than a standard cloth nappy and have an adjustable waistband.

These have been designed for busy toddlers and nappy changes on the go and can be used during the day or overnight. The 1-3 year size fits best from around 12 months old until around 3 to 4 years old and the larger 3-5 year size fits well from around 3 years old right up until they no longer need a nighttime nappy.

The prints on these re-usable pull-up style nappies have been designed by Katherine Quinn, an internationally acclaimed New Zealand artist, who's work can be found in many well loved bedtime storybooks. FAQ's

Can you fit these nappies with an active toddler who won’t stay still?

Yes! The benefit of our Sassy Straight Up Nappy is that you can dome up the sides to the appropriate size and then pull them up like undies. Just make sure that you check that the fabric with the side snaps is flat against your little one's hips and is not bunched up.

What are the inserts made of?

There are two inserts, the larger is bamboo and cotton, and the smaller one is hemp. Natural fibres are known for their high level of absorbency and are of course better for the skin. Together they are a great combo.

Do I need to stuff the inserts?

No, due to the inserts being natural fibres they can go straight against the skin. You will find that they sit better when stuffed but many have no issues when just laying them on top and snapping them to the front of the nappy shell. If you are toilet training laying it on top may speed up the process as some children do this faster when they can feel the wetness in their nappy.

What are the best inserts to use with my nappies?

The best inserts are generally the ones that come with your nappy as they are designed to fit the best. If you are switching out inserts then look for natural fibre options are they have more absorbency like bamboo or hemp. You can mix and match the different nappy insert fibres to find a combination that works for your child or add in extra absorbency, just don’t make it too bulky or you will get leaks. What is the difference between the insert fabrics?

Bamboo - Bamboo is a natural fibre and can hold a large amount of moisture. Being a natural fibre they can be used against your baby’s skin meaning that you do not have to stuff them into a pocket. They are great for heavy wetters and for night time use. They do take a while to dry but are worth it.

Hemp - Hemp is the thirstiest fabric used for inserts and it holds a lot of moisture. They are best paired with another fabric as they can take a bit longer to absorb moisture but they have enough absorbency to last the full night. They are a natural fibre so can go against the skin without drying it out. These inserts do take a bit longer to dry but they make up for it with how absorbent they are.

Can I use Sassy Straight Up Nappies overnight?

Yes, they are a great overnight option. The slim inserts are perfect for use overnight coupled with our hemp pad. Sit the hemp pad at the back of the nappy with the bamboo insert at the front closer to your baby’s skin for the most absorbent combination. If you are having minor leaks then you can pop a small cotton facecloth inside of the nappy to help add a bit more absorbency.

It is best to pre-wash night nappies straight after use. This is because urine overnight is more concentrated than daytime wee and so it's best not to leave them sitting as it could result in smells over time and can deteriorate the inserts.

Do I need to use a liner?

No, this is a personal preference. Liners are fantastic if you have a little one who still soils their nappies as it makes the clean-up way easier. We recommend reusable liners over disposable liners as they are more likely to sit in your nappy and are not destined for landfill. Please note that all “flushable” liners are NOT to be flushed down the toilet as they do not break down like toilet paper and can cause blockages.

Fitting Guide

1. Attach the waist snaps - Snap the rising snaps to the correct fit for your baby's legs

2. Best Fit - Make sure there is room for 2 fingers in the waist so there is no muffin top.

3. Extra Material - Push the hidden material up towards the tummy button.

4. Leg Seal - Check that the elastic is in the leg creases where underwear would sit.

How to Use

How do I fit the Sassy Straight-Up Nappies correctly?

1. Take your open cloth nappy and place it under your baby’s bottom so that the back of the nappy is low (but covers the bum crack).

2. Bring the front of the nappy up between their legs squeezing the narrow part of the nappy into the underwear line

3. Pull the front of the nappy up to sit on the tummy and around the waist.

4. Pull the snaps together and secure. The nappy should be flat across the tummy with no material sticking out the top.

Ensure you have a tight fit around the underwear line using the following steps:

1. Sit the elastic in the underwear line and ensure there are no leg gaps (this means no leaks!). Run your finger around the elastic to make sure that you have a good seal but so that it is not too tight.

2. Tuck any excess material up under the front snaps (when on the smaller settings).

3. Check you can place two stacked fingers between the front of the top of the nappy and baby’s tummy.

Use as a pull-up nappy

Once you know where the rise snaps need to be based on the size of your toddler you can pre-set these in advance once your nappies are washed and dried and then use as a pull up nappy. You’ll be all ready to go at change time and can simply pull these up like underwear!

As your toddler grows you will need to adjust the rise snaps and side snaps so that you still get the fit right - not too tight, but tight enough to prevent leaks.

Bamboo cotton booster pad - 4 layers of thirsty 420gsm natural fibre bamboo and cotton.
Hemp cotton booster pad - 4 layers of hemp cotton

Care

1. Tuck and flush - Tuck the velcro (if necessary) tab inside the nappy. Flush the poo down the loo and rinse off the nappy.

2. Basket - Put the pads and nappy into a laundry basket with lots of holes or washing machine with the lid open. No need to soak.

3. Prewash - When you are ready wash at 40 degrees we recommend you use Persil Ultimate liquid. No fabric softener or bleach.

4. Main Wash - Within 2 days, top the machine that has the nappies in the bottom, with other small laundry items and put through a full wash.

5. Line dry - but avoid prolonged sun exposure of the nappy outer shells. Absorbent booster pads can be tumble dried if needed.

6. Stuff - Put the pad(s) into the nappy pocket ahead of time. Avoid scratching the waterproof layer with rings or finger nails.
