Open Weave Fabric - Muslin is an open weave fabric making it highly breathable & lightweight. It's these properties which make it perfect for babies who can't regulate their temperature well. Because it allows plenty of airflow, it's an ideal fabric for swaddling in summer or shading a pushchair or baby capsule.
Multi-purpose - Muslin is highly versatile and can be used for everything from wiping up spills (burp cloths) to shade covers / breastfeeding covers and swaddles. Muslin swaddles in particular can also be used well beyond the baby stage, with many women using muslin swaddles as a lightweight towel at the beach, sarongs, scarves and more. It can also be used to cover food on a table or for cooking (think straining a liquid or making cheese).
Stretchy - Whilst not as stretchy as a merino or stretchy wrap, high quality muslin such as Little Unicorn or Aden and Anais does have a little stretch due to muslin's characteristic open weave. This is what makes it so incredible for swaddling. You can wrap stretch the fabric and wrap it securely around baby whilst allowing airflow, regulating baby's temperature & keeping them comfy.
Long-Lasing - Muslin is a durable fabric and will easily outlast your baby or be passed on to siblings, or the babies of friends and family. Once you've finished using your muslins for swaddling / baby, they can be repurposed for food covers, as sarongs for the beach, cooking and more.
Absorbent - Muslin is highly absorbent, meaning it's good at keeping your baby dry. It also helps make muslin a practical option to use as a burp cloth, change pad cover or more.
Soft & gentle- Muslin is a soft, gentle fabric that will get softer and softer the more you wash it. A baby's skin is very delicate, so the buttery-soft properties of muslin is super-gentle on their skin.
